Willpower Doesn’t Work

Have you tried to break a habit or manifest something and you can’t make it happen no matter how much you want it?

It’s because WillPower doesn’t work.

It’s not that we shouldn’t want things and take steps toward seeing them through, but unseen psychological barriers are in our way.If you didn’t have those barriers you wouldn’t have the habit, or you would be already manifesting what you want. You wouldn’t even think about needing willpower.

It’s frustrating to be told, as Nike says, Just Do It, like it’s so easy for everyone else, you should just put your big-kid pants on and make it happen.

So what do you do?

Keep your good intentions, but also dismantle the barriers that are holding you back. Each step of trying to go forward with your intention will bring up ways that you hide, get frustrated, feel overwhelmed, get discouraged or distracted, get mad at yourself….the list goes on.

So you use you awareness of those discomforts as doorways into what’s tripping you up. Somehow, someway, at some time you had a precedent, a situation, or more than one, that registered in your brain and was stored there, and it’s influencing you to be uncomfortable now.

Your inability to make things happen is a completely natural and understandable way to be, considering what’s happened before.

You can become aware of your barriers, and then acknowledge and accept them. The less you resist, the more freedom and strength you have to carry out your intention. You won’t feel like you need willpower. You’ll go forward naturally and wonder why it was so hard all along.

The awareness and acceptance of your stored impressions are a topic that deserves more than a sentence, but that sentence really is the reason our willpower fails us.

Of course it’s essential to have a knowledgeable, encouraging, patient guide with us. We can’t work on our own minds with our own minds.

The point is, there’s no need for shame when it comes to the frustration of not being able to make something happen. It makes perfect sense, and there is a solution. This is good news.
